Genital rashes occurring in toddlers are a common problem for the parents to deal with. These rashes generally occur due to four major causes –

Diaper Rash

This is one of the most common reason. Diapers are worn by toddlers for a longer period of time which might lead to genital rashes in them. If it is a diaper rash, it is advisable to avoid using them for a couple of days. As an alternative, soft cotton material could be used and the area should be kept as dry as possible.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Genital rashes could also occur due to Seborrheic Dermatitis. It’s generally a skin condition where both the bacterial and fungal elements play a major role. At this stage, the child needs to be taken to a Dermatologist (where in the dermatologist will prescribe related anti-fungal, anti-bacterial ointments), for the problem to settle down.

Contact Allergic Dermatitis

This kind of allergy could be due to contact of a number of things like the fabric the child has worn or the dye that has been used on the fabric etc.

Zinc Deficiency

Zinc deficiency also causes genital rashes in the toddlers. If the rash is persistent in the child then it is advisable to consult a dermatologist in this case.

These are certain ways to deal with the four major causes of genital rashes in toddlers.
