Sinuses are basically the space around the nasal cavity which is filled with air.

If the air around the cavity gets infected in any way then it gets filled with fluid. If the drainage of this fluid takes place normally, then there should be no problem but if not, then sinusitis may occur.  This problem is often confused with cold due to similarities in the two but there are many signs and symptoms of sinus which can help you identify it.

The following are the main symptoms of sinusitis:

  • Some of the common symptoms of sinusitis include nasal discharge, nasal obstructions and heaviness in the head. Another common sign of sinusitis is facial pain.
  • Since there are many kinds of sinuses present and at various positions, the symptoms and signs may vary depending upon which sinus is involved.
  • The lower infected sinuses of the face can lead to facial pain whereas frontal infected sinuses can cause pain on the forehead. Similarly pain in between the eyes can be caused due to sinuses on either side of the eyeballs.
  • Pain at the back of the head can be caused due to stenoid sinuses.
