In Ayurveda, there are three types of doshas Vata, Pitta and kappa. Rakthamoukshan is bloodletting. Bloodletting is the removal of impure blood from the body it can be done by a number of ways. Leech therapy is one of the natural ways of bloodletting. There are different types of leeches they are classified into two types poisonous and non-poisonous. Non-poisonous leeches are used for treating bloodletting. Leeches have two ends, the circular end where it takes the support and the head part where it sticks to the body. Apply it and wherever there is impure blood the leeches they just stick over there and then start taking the impure blood. They suck around 5ml to 50ml of blood. It takes around 40 to45 minutes once the leech therapy is completed, just sprinkles turmeric on the leeches so the leeches come out.
Once the treatment is completed you have to take care of the patient and leeches as well. For the leeches vatmanakarma has to be taken, this is vomiting of impure blood from the leeches for this you have to keep the leech in the turmeric water and apply turmeric on the head part and try to hold it the leeches until they puke out the whole blood Once the vatmanakarma is done leeches will be inactive for 7 days. The same leech can be applied to the same patient but the same leech should not be applied to the other people.
Leeches once used cannot be used for minimum 7 to 10 days. The saliva of the leeches have lots of enzymes out of lots of enzymes hirudin is one of the anticoagulants what leeches have so when leeches are applied fibrin is not converted into fibrinogen and that part is losing out blood and the blood circulation to that part increases.
In the case of diabetic’s foot, diabetics gangrene there is already less blood supply so leeches can be applied over there. In psoriasis, leeches are extremely useful varicose veins in it has some prostaglandins in its saliva it has been varicose tailgates and teen implementer symmetry substances even for rheumatic arthritis, gout arthritis to relieve the pain factors leeches extremely useful.
